Elizabeth Taylor’s Thrift Shop (Taylor Swift x Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Wanz)

For the very first time, I’ve created a mashup based on a request. Yes, someone actually suggested I do a mashup of Taylor Swift and Macklemore. The two songs came to my mind instantly after hearing the suggestion. All I would have to do is lower the key and BPM of Swift’s 2025 track “Elizabeth Taylor” to match it up with “Thrift Shop.” I got to work using my typical process – MP3 conversions, Moises, iMovie. Unfortunately, I realized I downloaded the clean version of “Thrift Shop,” so I started over before much progress was made on iMovie.

But then something happened.

I switched apps from iMovie to Moises for a quick moment to see if the BPMs were synchronized properly. When I went back into iMovie, the audio tracks were cut differently and skewed along the film reel, making the entire project out of sync. I had to start over again. This time, all I needed to do was upload the Moises files back into the cleared iMovie project and place the audio tracks back into place.

The entire process, including the times I had to start over, took me almost three hours compared to my usual two. But I’m insanely proud of how it came out. The first chorus of “Elizabeth Taylor” fit perfectly over the “Thrift Shop” beat – the pauses in both songs’ first verses are even synchronized (“Oftentimes, it doesn’t feel so glamorous to be me.“). Overall, I made a really fun mashup based on a very interesting suggestion from a friend. Enjoy the mashup if you haven’t checked it out already!
