State of Something Bad (Taylor Swift x Shinedown)
Throughout my journey of these mashups, I would occasionally tease one that I had been patiently waiting to create since my burst of mashup ideas in June 2023. I conceived this idea alongside my first Taylor Swift x Shinedown mashup, “Haunted Monsters.” The first tease to this one was in the description of “Haunted Monsters,” in which I said “Welcome to my first (Yes, FIRST) Taylor Swift and Shinedown Mashup.” The key difference between these two mashup ideas was how long I had to wait to make both of them.
I knew I had to wait until at least July 7th, 2023, to make “Haunted Monsters,” because at the time, I knew that’s when Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) was dropping. When I got the idea to mash-up Shinedown’s 2015 hit “State of My Head” and Swift’s 2017 dark-pop hit “I Did Something Bad,” I decided to wait until whenever Reputation (Taylor’s Version) would be released so I could use the version of the latter song that Swift actually owns. And so I waited… and waited… and made a crap-ton of more mashups… and waited… and waited… and made even more mashups…. and waited… and waited….
May 30th, 2025 arrived. It just so happened to be the day the re-mashed version of my first mashup, “Adore Your Second Chance” would premiere. Taylor Swift announced that she had bought back the masters to her first six albums. YAY!!!!!! I read the letter posted to her site, in which she revealed that not even a quarter of Rep (TV) was recorded. Given that now she rightly owns her music, I realized the two-year long wait to make this mashup was finally over. Without any hesitation, I got to it. Once again using the MP3 converter my friend introduced me to, I spent over two hours editing this mashup to make it as perfect as I have always imagined it. And I announced it on my Instagram story all in the same day after the re-mash premiere.
And now it’s here. My ultimate mashup. Perhaps the crux of what I’ve been doing these past three years with this side project. Thank you to everyone who has supported me for this project, from the first few people to whom I sent “Adore Your Second Chance,” to the classmates I presented this very website to and played “bet u wanna levitate,” and to you, who may be reading this blog post now. I am deeply humbled by any amount of support I am given for these silly videos I’ve made purely for fun. I love and appreciate you all.
Now, please enjoy “State of Something Bad.”
