Das Illuminati (An ONICKS Mashup)
Hello, fellow Legends! 🙂
And for those who have no idea what I mean, a “Legend” refers to a fan of ONICKS (he/they), a Popstar Supervillain who is taking over the world.
I could get into how I discovered and even connected with ONICKS, but all of that can be found in the video’s description. This mashup is the only time where I mashed up two songs by the same artist (unless you count my piano cover mashup of Taylor Swift’s “Electric Touch” and “Eyes Open,” which you can find on my TikTok and Instagram Reels). Sometime around mid-February 2024, it hit me that ONICKS’ birthday was about a month away. I had decided I wanted to do something for him as a birthday gift, and the first thing I thought of was a mashup (because of course it was).
I chose two of ONICKS’ songs that are in the same key, which were their biggest hit, “Illuminati” and their most recent single at the time, “DAS VILLÄN.” I actually made this mashup the day before I made “Safe and Sound (TV),” yet I released the latter first to keep a two-week upload pattern going, as ONICKS’ birthday is March 15th. I also did with this mashup the same thing I did for “you should see me run” – I sped up the instrumental of “Illuminati” to match the BPM of “DAS VILLÄN” for a much faster, exciting effect.
I announced this mashup about a week before ONICKS’ birthday, sharing the cover image to my story and telling my viewers that this would be a surprise for ONICKS (I hid their account from viewing my story for this). In the end, this mashup celebrates everything ONICKS is and reflects my admiration for him as an artist and a person. Before you check out the mashup, I urge you to listen to the songs individually first, and ONICKS’ entire discography for that matter, as their music is criminally underrated.
