Clean Robbers (Taylor Swift x The 1975)
Some mashups are… almost there. Some are damn near perfect. Others, such as this one, have so much potential that they need to be recreated from scratch. When I originally made this mashup in June 2023, I not only refused to utilize Moises, but I also used the instrumental for The 1975’s “Robbers.” This meant that I had to stretch out and chop up the isolated vocals of Taylor Swift’s “Clean.” And thank goodness August 10th happened, because we Swifties were blessed to see the announcement of 1989 (Taylor’s Version) to be released on the original album’s nine-year anniversary, October 27th.
This gave me time to think through and reevaluate certain things. Included in these reevaluations was my decision to not scrap my original “Clean Robbers” mashup, but to start over and make it better. To do that, I had to wait for October 27th to arrive so that I could use the instrumental for “Clean (Taylor’s Version).” It did not help that I failed to find a decent vocal track for “Robbers,” and I used Moises to isolate the vocals for that song. In the end, the “Robbers” acapella sounded distorted, to my apologies. However, one thing I did do was take the guitar riff (and its reverse sound) from the second verse of “Robbers” and place it into the second verse of the mashup.
While I should give myself some sort of credit, I can’t help but think about the fact that not long after I uploaded the final version, I discovered that…. these exact two songs have been mashed up before. Whoops! I suppose even before Swift and Healy allegedly dated, people who are both Swifties and The 1975 fans like myself had the same idea. Drat. This mashup premiered on my YouTube channel on December 15th, 2023, and I teased that it was my first mashup between my favorite artist and my favorite band.
