you should see me run (Billie Eilish x AWOLNATION)

WOAH. That was my reaction to hearing Billie Eilish’s “you should see me in a crown” and AWOLNATION’s viral hit “Run” play together in my head. I completed this mashup on September 27th, 2023, and released it on Halloween of that year. At the time, I felt that this was my second best mashup next to She’s Americk-roll. The cover art was simple. I faded the AWOLNATION cover within Eilish’s album cover to give the appearance you see above.

One interesting thing I did with this mashup that differs from my others is the BPM. “Run” has a slightly slower BPM than “you should see me in a crown,” yet I used the former’s instrumental as the backing track for the mashup. I actually decided to speed up the “Run” instrumental to match the BPM of Eilish’s song, rather than slowing down Eilish’s isolated vocals. Had I done that, the mashup wouldn’t work too well in that slower tempo. So, I took a few extra steps for this mashup than I usually do.

My favorite moment in this mashup is the buildup to the imfamous “meme” moment in “Run,” where the music cuts as Aaron Bruno simply speaks the word “run” before a heavy beat drop. I synchronized this moment with the isolated vocals from Eilish’s song right before its second chorus, so that she sings the word “crown” on the beat drop. When you hear it, it actually sounds like “you should see me (run/in a) crown,” hence the title of the mashup, “you should see me run.”
